Happy birthday!! Mobile Phone calls hits 40 years old

Believe it or not the first ever mobile phone call was made on April the 3rd 1973.

A senior engineer named Marty Cooper at Motorola called a colleague at a rival telecommunications firm and announced he was calling from a “real cellular telephone”

The DynaTAC 8000x was slightly bigger than today’s tech; it weighed 2.5 pounds, measured 10 inches long, and was soon nicknamed “the brick”, the battery lasted a mere 20 minutes and took 10 hours to charge. His Inspiration was star trek captain kirks flip up communicator.

Cyber Monday

This coming Monday 3rd December is expected to be the busiest day of the year for online retailers in the UK. The day which is nicknamed “Cyber Monday” is expected to generate 115 million visits to online retail stores (ecommerce websites) which is a 36% increase on last year.

It is estimated that £500m sales will be made on tablets and £330m sales will be made on smart phones, while £3.2bn of in-store sales will be influenced by smartphones. This is believed to be related to the huge increase of retailers using social media to promote their products and services.

We have used it ourselves on NextGenCel, Spindlewood Lodges, Wessex Audio Visual and Life Skills Direct and the acquisition by Adobe could bridge the gap in using web fonts offline for designing pages in PhotoShop or Fireworks as well as publishing fonts you choose yourself.
